About Beekman Day Camp's Leadership Programs
Beekman Day Camp is unique among Recreation Department camps in that it hires a Leadership Cordinatortor to facilitate leadership development in our oldest campers before they leave us for the world of work. The program is SELECTIVE and interested youth must apply and be accepted into the program BEFORE registering for camp.

This is progressive program requiring a minimum of 4 weeks in each step before proceeding to the next step.

LIT (Leader in Training) Must attend a minimum of 4 weeks to complete program  offers General Leadership Training. LITs spend most of their time with their peers in leadership training & team building activities. They do some planning and presenting to younger campers, and some observing of camp groups. All interactions are followed by peer discussion of the experience.

CIT (Counselor in Training) Must attend a minimum of 4 weeks to complete program
offers General Camp Counselor Training/Interning. CITs spend an increased amount of time interning with Counselors and specific groups of campers. In addition CITs participate in a daily workshop with their peers for reflection and debriefing their experiences.

RI (Rec Intern)  offers Overall Park & Recreation Training/Interning. RIs help plan and lead the all camp activity, work alongside specialty counselors to plan activities for campers and intern with recreation staff in non-camp areas.
